PB is a new independent book imprint in Washington, D.C. that focuses on telling the all-too-human stories behind the headline-grabbing issues of our times. Our publishing model focuses on the highly motivated communities that form around cutting-edge issues of the day – like stem cell regulation or charter schools or global warming or online privacy or whatever else keeps us up at night. We identify the people who ARE the issue and determine who "wrote the book" on the topic. Then we move that status from a figurative to a literal statement. (And we believe any distinction between "eBooks" and print books lost any meaning long ago – ours will be available across all formats.)
For the record, our imprint name is well-defined by that oft-misheard lyric from the Rolling Stone's Sympathy for the Devil: "So if you meet me// Have some courtesy// Have some sympathy, and some taste//Use all your well-learned politesse//Or I'll lay your soul to waste..."
If that's not well-learned advice for publishing books in Washington, then we don't know what is. We're working on sympathy and taste.
